100% recycled sterling silver with oxidised and etched detail. 18" sterling silver trace chain included.
Items are deliberately cut and coloured by hand to reflect the organic, sometimes imperfect nature of the subject. Therefore there may be slight differences between purchased item and web image and any two pieces of the same design.
Poor tree management, such as allowing faster growing species to shade them out, has made Black Poplars vulnerable to infections (e.g. poplar scab), and means they are becoming genetically isolated, (with no female trees to germinate seedlings). In some cases hybridisation by land managers, has diluted the genetics of our remaining true native specimens.
Poplars prefer to grow in floodplains, and as more of these habitats are drained for intensive agriculture, etc.. the Black Poplar is rapidly disappearing.
Fun fact: Black poplars produce red catkins known as 'Devil's Fingers' - but if you see one on the ground, don't pick it up as folklore says it's extremely bad luck!
