Hand crafted from 100% recycled sterling silver with oxidised detail. 18" sterling silver trace chain included.
Water shrews build their burrows in river and canal banks. Pollution from agricultural pesticides and nutrient run off, and poor river management are both known to do serious damage to these burrows and surrounding vegetation, as well as poisoning the invertebrates and small fish the shrews live on. Urban expansion also often comes with gross mismanagement of the natural movement of water, creating devastating habitat changes of loss of prey.
They are often confused for rodents but are in fact more closely related to hedgehogs and moles.
Fun fact: water shrews can smell under water - and bites from their red-tipped teeth are highly venomous, to paralyze prey and would-be attackers.
