Agriculture again gets a bad rap here.  Expanded farmland, commercial pesticides, and mechanised machinery pose a huge threat to hares - especially leverets.

Fragmented habitats and highly cultivated fields are also causing a significant loss of hares' dietary needs and cover from natural predators.

Organised game shoots and hare coursing with dogs, wipes out several individuals at a turn, often indiscriminately, giving populations little to no chance to recover.  Both are illegal activities in the UK but on the rise all the same.  The warming climate creates earlier harvests and fewer hiding places, leaving the hares more vulnerable to attack.

Fun fact: brown hares have been witnessed having 'parties' during thunderstorms, appearing to frolic in groups, enjoying the noise and unrested skies!
